Brief Description
Act No. 87-010 of 1 August 1987 on the Family Code, as amended and supplemented by Act No. 16/008 of 15 July 2016, eradicated marital authorisation and the legal incapacity of married women. This revised family code raised the marriageable age for girls from 15 to 18. Article 352 of the revised Family Code stipulates that men and women under the age of 18 may not enter into marriage, and article 357 stipulates that a child, even if emancipated, may not enter into marriage.
